Thank you for your interest in commissioning a piece of art! Below is my Commission FAQ which can give you some information on pricing and what kind of work I offer. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me via the contact form at the bottom of the page. I’m happy to answer any questions.
How much does a commission cost? Pricing for commissions is entirely based on content and size. Please keep in mind that each piece is different and therefore a final price is on a per-piece basis. The final price is always agreed upon before work begins. You will NEVER be subject to surprise fees or additional costs; all pricing is discussed thoroughly (this includes shipping charges when ordering original work). Below is a general overview of the sizes and type of artwork I offer which will give you an idea of a base cost.
As I stated above, each piece is different, and final cost will include factors like how detailed it is, whether or not it has a background, etc.
What kind of work do you offer? I specialize in portraiture, but I’m happy to work with a variety of subjects. I have done character drawings, pet portraits, even t-shirt designs. I encourage you to take a look at my portfolio for an idea of my finished pieces, or take a look at my Instagram which includes works in progress and less polished work. I will not create art depicting scenes of discriminatory hatred or violence toward any person, race, or culture, and I always have the right to say no to any commission I am uncomfortable creating.
What kind of mediums do you use? Currently I work exclusively in traditional art. My main two mediums are graphite pencil or Copic Markers. For graphite drawings I use 100lb Bristol Board paper and for Copic Markers I use 140lb Mixed Media paper. Fully digital pieces will be available later this year. I do not offer framing.
Do I get a digital file or an original piece of art? Your choice. Ordering a digital image has no added shipping cost and costs slightly less than ordering an original. As stated above, I will be offering full digital commissions in the future. All digital images are high resolution and should print well up to an 11×14 size. Original pieces are shipped out with durable packing to keep them from getting bent.
What if I want to make edits or changes? All commissions begin with sketches. First a rough sketch, which is approved by you. Then a final sketch, also approved by you. During those stages I will accept three requests for changes. If more than three are required it will increase the price of the piece. At a certain point (generally during the final working of the piece) requests for edits and changes will no longer be taken. I will let you know via email before I begin the final stage of the commission so you will know.
I live outside the USA, can I still order a commission? Yes! I ship internationally. See below for payment and shipping info.
How much does shipping cost? Shipping charges within the continental United States averages around $5. International shipping charges average around $10. Insurance can be added to your package to ensure you get reimbursed if the package is lost in transit. All shipping costs are agreed upon in advance; no shipping charges will ever be added without your consent.
How do I pay for my commission? I accept PayPal in $USD. I will send an invoice to you via PayPal for payment. For large pieces, I take 50% upfront, and the other 50% upon completion of the work. I also will accept payments in installments for large pieces. No art will be sent out until it is paid for in full.
How do I commission a piece of art? The easiest way is to email me! You can use the form at the bottom of the page or email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. The biggest tip I have about ordering a commission from me is don’t be shy! If you have ideas share them, and if you have questions, ask them. I am happy to work with you to make sure the final product is just what you want.
“Kayly was nothing but a pleasure to work with on my pet portrait. I sent a lot of pictures and some loose ideas, and she worked her magic. We absolutely love our portrait and look at it every day and smile! Great communication to boot!” -C. Traini
“Besides being incredibly talented, Kayly was a pleasure to work with. I was able to bring my ideas to her and she created exactly the art I imagined, which eventually became screen printed on our business apparel. Her work is meticulous and was completed in the time frame we agreed on, I couldn’t be more pleased.” -B. Perez
“I commissioned some fan art from Kay after falling in love with a series of pop-culture portraits she shared on her blog, and I just knew she would be the perfect artist to bring my favourite characters to life. She was an absolute pleasure to work with, keeping me updated every step of the way, and patiently listening to my wishes, while also staying true to her own style. The finished art work turned out perfectly, and I couldn’t have been happier with either the process or the product!” – R. Marie
