August Goals

Can we discuss just how satisfying it is when a month ends on a Sunday so the first day of the new month is a Monday? I just love it. It makes my planning brain happy. Anywho, with August truly right around the corner, I wanted to get back in the habit of writing up a goals post at the beginning of the month. I really like monthly goals, and it’s been awhile since I’ve had much order around here so I’m quite excited to get myself organized again as we enter the last month of summer. Here are my August goals!

Goal #1: Get organized! Specifically, write out and stick to a blog schedule for the month of August. Also, I want to work on being more active on my social medias for my art and such, so I want to try out some test runs of schedules and things for those. If you have any recommendations for apps to use for that, feel free to let me know! In this same vein, I finally got Periscope (I’m only like a year and half late to the party….) – if you stream, let me know! I plan on using it to stalk follow artists, and eventually want to start streaming art myself!

Goal #2: Make art again. I have taken a huge break from art in the last month. With a lot of personal stuff going on, I just didn’t have the mental energy to even care about creating. However, I have a LOT of projects I’m behind on, I have commissions already booked for August, and it’s time to get back on board. I’m at the point where I miss making art, and I’m so ready to get working again.

Goal #3: Daily yoga. Via Yoga with Adriene of course. I’ve fallen off the yoga wagon lately and I’m not happy about that. I definitely want to make it a point to do daily yoga for the month. The lovely Dina is actually hosting a challenge to do yoga daily in the fantastic Powerpuff Bloggers group (created by the ever fabulous Natalie!) If you’re a blogging lady, be sure to join up with the group and get your fit on! We’re awesome!

Goal #4: Stick to using Habitica. I recently made a new Habitica account (the last time I played it was still being called HabitRPG!) and I am really enjoying it again. Since I’ve just started I only have a few habits and dailies as to not overwhelm myself, but I’m loving it. I definitely want to make sure to keep utilizing it as a productivity tool. Do any of you use it? We should totally make a party if so!

What a bunch of goobers….

Goal #5: Enjoy every last second of time left at home with my kiddo. My daughter starts school on August 29th. Guys, I can’t handle it. I mean, obviously there is a part of me that is so excited for her to have the experience, make friends, and have a blast. Plus it means I get to start having art as my full time job, which is so fantastic. BUT, there is currently a larger part of me that is just so devastated about the end of my era at home with her. We will never again be able to just spend all day, every day togetherΒ  laughing and learning and playing and ugggghhh cue the ugly crying. I mean, duh, I’ll still see her every day, and there will still be summers, but this is the start of a new chapter and I am so not ready for it. Mommy-sobbing aside, we actually have a ton of family stuff happening in the month of August! She goes to science/nature day-camp for a week, we’re going to Boston for the weekend, we’re going to see Cirque du Soleil for my mum’s birthday, and we’re going on a trip out to New York to see Niagra Falls! I’ll be sharing about all of them here on the blog. And while the weekends are booked, we have tons of wonderful time at home during the week. I can’t wait to soak up every single second of it.

Bring it on, August!

What are your August goals? I’d love to hear them, let me know below!

  • Great goals! I use Buffer to schedule my social media and I used Habitica before having a bullet journal, at this point I think my character is like dead, haha. However I’m alicegreenleaf there πŸ™‚

    • Kay

I’ll have to try and find you! πŸ˜€ Bullet journaling is something I think I’d like to try, but I know at this point in time I just won’t have the time to put in to it like I’d want to. I love follow along with your planning Instagram and seeing your pages though, they are so beautiful!

      • Aww thank you so much, Kay! If you ever want to know more, PLEASE start with the bulletjournal.com official site, because seeing all the complicated layout from other people at first will make you feel a bit overwhelmed (I’ve been there!). πŸ™‚

  • Aw I’m so excited for your daughter, she’s going to love going to school with other kids. πŸ™‚ Good luck with al lof your goals!

    • Kay

Thanks Jess! She is so excited for school! I’ll get there once I get past all the mommy feels haha.

  • B.

You have some awesome goals here! I’m trying to get back into the habit of having them as well.

    • Kay

Thanks! Hoping I can stick with them. πŸ™‚

  • So excited to start both of our group challenges this month!

    • Kay

Yeah! Me too! I’m skipping out on the step one as I never got a pedometer in time, but that’s okay. I could get one for my phone, but between Pokemon GO and it my battery would be dead so quickly I’d have to charge it all the time, which kind of defeats the purpose ahaha.

      • Totally understand! Pokemon is such a battery suck πŸ™ I never really considered getting a power bank until Pokemon Go came out, hahah.

  • Cleaning is my number 1 priority! My room is an absolute mess and I’ve been wanting to get rid of stuff that I no longer need or like. And get back into excerising! Ugh, why am I so lazy?

    • Kay

I am SO up and down with exercising. Like sometimes I do a ton of it regularly and then kind of fall off the wagon and then do it all over again. UGH. But I’m hoping at some point I’ll at least get a good yoga routine down. I definitely feel so much better when I’m doing yoga regularly.

  • I absolutely cannot stress the importance of organizing your social media. You have no idea what a difference it’s made for me. There are plenty of ways to do it, but I use CoSchedule. I’ve blogged about it before, but now that I have been using it for over a year now and really tapped into its potential, I should do so again.

You don’t have to have WordPress to use it, but it comes as a plugin as well. You can literally click on a post and schedule social media for today, tomorrow, next week, next month… across several platforms. It’s really helped me up my game.

I’m really excited for you to start doing more art again <3

    • Kay

Wow, that sound great!! Does it cost much? I definitely know how important it is for social media to be organized about it, at least if you want to use it effectively. With the kiddo starting school in a few short weeks, I definitely want to start focusing more on things like that as I work on growing my art business. Since I do use WordPress, I could use the plugin too! Definitely something look into, thanks Kimi!! <3

  • I think getting organized in social media is super important! I just Buffer. It is free for up to ten posts at once. It can post currently to FB, IG, G+ and Pinterest. I really enjoy working with Buffer, their free plan is not half bad althought the Awesome plan at $100 a year is not horrible. But the free one does what I need it to do which is schedule posts.

I’m very excited for you to start doing more art! Wanna draw my Inquisitor and Cullen for me?? <3 <3 <3

I am also glad you are doing Yoga with me this month. I'm already remembered everyday so far to keep my shoulders away from my ears. I put all my stress there and just after 3 days I'm glad I've started to notice this one thing about me. I've even been so inclined to eat a little better. πŸ™‚ We can do this!!!

I hope the transition for your little one to school goes well! I know it can be tough! Let me know if you are doing okay or if you need to talk about it!

    • Kay

Thank you so much Dina! I love that I have mommy-geek blog friends…I feel like you can relate so much to things I go through since you have a little one too! I haven’t found a ton of people in that niche, so I definitely love that we have met via the blogosphere!

I too am so happy for yoga again. I NEED to keep it up daily. I haven’t missed a day either, and I already feel so much better about myself just after this short time. Here’s to us continuing after this 30 days is up!

I have heard so much about Buffer and definitely want to try it out. I think it’s going to be my best bet for now. I also need to figure out a schedule of when/what to post on my social medias. So much to do!

And if you ever want to commission me, just let me know! I’ll be opening up again for them soon. <3

      • Let me know when you open! I would love a commission. I’ve always wanted a drawing of my Inquisitor and her Cullen. πŸ™‚ That would be so rad!!
