June Goals and Blog Changes

As I’ve mentioned in many of my last few posts, I’ve been putting a lot of thought into my blog content, and taking a step back to reassess. I started this blog as an outlet for myself, and that still applies; the only difference (and huge bonus) is that now I have found this amazing community of bloggers to interact & share with along the way! So when I started feeling unsatisfied with my blog, I took the time to figure out what I really wanted here. And that led to some changes that will be starting up this month!

First up – an actual blog schedule! If you’ve read my Focus: Blog Planning post, you already have an idea of how I go about planning my blog, and the core of that won’t change. I still plan out my posts ahead of time, and use Sundays to get the week’s posts written up. However, I want to organize my content a bit more. As a blog that doesn’t have a particular niche other than ‘art & geeky lifestyle’ (which I’m pretty sure isn’t really a niche) I am getting a little worn on not having any kind of content schedule. I want some organization, and I’d also like to really focus in on my blog tagline (Artist. Mum. Geek.) since those are pretty much the three huge focal points in my life.

So from here on out, my blog will on this schedule:

  • Monday – Personal posts. Updates from my life, trips we take, garden stuff, all that jazz.
  • Wednesday – Art stuff! Obviously WIP Wednesdays, but also artist interviews/featured artists, art supply reviews, or just general ramblings about art.
  • Friday – Geekery! Whether it’s joining in with 5FF, book reviews, subscription box reviews – anything geek related.
  • Saturday – Optional post day. Basically if I have more that I want to say/share that week, I’ll use Saturday as my extra post day.

The beginning and the end of the month may get a little wonky for monthly wrap-ups and goals posts, but in theory I can make it work.

The only other change is that there is going to be more art around here! It’s something I’ve been mulling over for awhile, but I definitely want to start incorporating more of my art (and featuring others!) around the blog, aside from my WIP Wednesday posts. It’ll mean more work for me, but it’s work I want to have on my plate. It forces me to sketch and draw things I normally wouldn’t and push me out of my comfort zone a bit, which I definitely want. And, since my kiddo starts school in just a few shorts months, I’ll have a lot more free time for it. So this month will be my experimental month to work on incorporating more art into my posts!

Moving on to June goals!

#1. Run my HP Virtual Race. Yeah, I fell completely off the running boat in the month of May. I got a decent amount of exercise in between yoga, hiking, and general life, but didn’t get up and go for a run once. But I’ve already paid for the HP race and mile logging starts TOMORROW so damn, I need to get on that.

#2. Incorporate art into four blog posts. See the above yammerings. And I’m not counting WIP Wednesday!

#3. Plan a trip. The hubs and I just sat down and just had a massive life talk the other day (more about that in a future post) and now we would like to plan a trip with our kiddo. It won’t be a massive trip, something in driving distance, but I want to have it actually planned by the end of the month.

What are your June goals?

  • I can’t pick a favorite posting day now! 😀 I’m so happy for you and I am really excited about reading your upcoming posts. My schedule led me to too many blog memes, so I decided to not have too many “rules” for this Summer.

    • Kay

Thanks Alice! And while I do have this schedule, I plan to be loose about it over the summer. If I miss a day, that’s okay. Summer is always SO busy, and I don’t want to add on stress about the blog!

  • Danielle Knapp

Blog posting schedules definitely help – can’t wait to see more of your art 🙂

    • Kay

Thanks Danielle! I’m excited to share more of it!

  • A blog schedule makes life so much easier! I love it and I think you will too because you don’t have to think about what to write (mostly)! I also schedule my posts ahead of time and write them mostly on Sunday! 🙂

I’m excited to have a schedule! Summer can be tricky, as we tend to take a lot of trips for the weekend, so I may have to adjust when I write my posts. But for now, I hope to be able to still use Sunday’s for post writing!

Nice! Excited to see what this new focus brings. And I hear you on the trip planning. Rick and I are still waiting for our tax thing to get resolved before we can start planning our next trip, but with any luck we’ll know what the damage is in the next month or so.

    • Kay

I hope you can swing a nice trip! Sometime I’d like to be able to take a trip outside of the US, but since none of us currently have passports, it’ll be awhile. Plus, airfare overseas is killer. D:

  • I can only be enthusiastic when I read there’s going to be more art stuff! Looking forward to getting inspired and learning a thing or two. 😀

    • Kay

Thanks so much Rav! I’m excited to incorporate more art into posts! 🙂

  • Definitely looking forward to more art. You’re so talented!

      Thanks love! 🙂
