Liebster Award

In the beginning of March, Kayla over at Epicfied, was kind enough to nominate me for a Liebster Award! I always enjoy reading other people’s award posts, mainly because I really enjoy getting to know the blogger behind the blog. So strap in for some random stuff about be. But first up the rules (guidelines?) for the Liebster Award:

  • Thank the blog that nominated you and link back to them
  • Answer 11 questions from the blogger that nominated you
  • Tell readers 11 random facts about yourself
  • Nominate up to 11 bloggers to receive the award next
  • Give your new nominees questions to answer about themselves when they post their nomination

Onto Kayla’s questions!

What’s your favorite hobby? My first instinct is to say art, but that’s kind of a DUH for those who follow this blog, so instead I’ll go with gardening. There is something so completely satisfying about growing your own food from a teeny little seed. I love it!

Do you cosplay? I don’t. I’m too shy. I’ll stick to admiring and photographing other people’s awesome cosplay.

Morning person or night person? Night person, 100%. My prime hours are from about 8:30pm – 12:30am.

Do you have any pets? Show me pictures! Yes I do! Two kitties, Eli (in the back) and Edgar (in the front). They love to snuggle.

How long have you been blogging? It’ll be four years this June. But at the beginning of 2016, I gave myself a complete fresh start, so this version of My Open Sketchbook is not quite four months old.

What’s your favorite blog post? That I wrote? I’d say my post on feminism. Not only because I’m proud that I published it (I was definitely scared to post it) but because of all the amazing people who commented and shared their views.

What’s your favorite drink? Tea. Or milk. I love milk.

Do you like sweet potato fries? LOVE THEM. My favorite kind of french fry.

What’s your favorite color (and why)? A tie between blue and black. Blue I find relaxing. Black because I love dark colors, and night time.

Do you like art, drawing, etc? Yes I do! It’s something that has always been a big part of my life, and this is the year I decided to kick it into high gear and start taking it more seriously as a career choice.

Do you play an instrument? I do! I play piano; took seven years of lessons as a kiddo (age 5 – 12). I haven’t played regularly in years, sadly, but I can still read music and have my electric grand piano set up. One day I hope to give it a lot more love! File it under the ‘When I Have Time’ life category.

Onto 11 Random Facts About Me! I always find coming up with facts about myself kind of awkward, so I’m just listing things as they pop into my head. And potentially polling my husband haha.

#1. I think coffee smells amazing and tastes disgusting.

#2. I don’t drink alcohol. I have absolutely nothing against it; it just always makes me sick, even if I don’t have a lot. No fun, at all.

#3. I have a scar on my thigh from a river tubing accident. I flipped my tube and a rusty pipe in the water stabbed into my leg. I was 16, and in all my  teenage wisdom, refused to go get stitches, which is probably why I have such a big scar. I did, however, get a tetanus shot (thanks Mom! Adult me appreciates that!)

#4. I started wearing contacts at age 13, and didn’t get my first pair of glasses until I was 22. Now, I much prefer glasses.

#5. I was sorted into Gryffindor the first time on Pottermore. After the new update I got sorted into Ravenclaw. So I guess I’m a Gryffinclaw??

#6. If I had the chance to be immortal I would take it in a heartbeat.

#7. The second movie I ever saw in the movie theater was Jurassic Park. I was five. I don’t know why my dad thought that movie was appropriate for a five-year-old, but I actually loved it!

#8. The first song I ever played on the piano was the main theme from Jurassic Park after seeing it in the theater. I figured it out on our little keyboard at home and my dad put me in piano lessons soon after.

#9. I have serious anxiety about eating in restaurants.

#10. I love the feel and smell of antique books.

#11. I have a real, real struggle with book-to-movie/show adaptations. I generally can’t handle straying from the source material. In my opinion, always just read the book!

And now for my Liebster Award nominees….I feel like everyone and their mother has done this tag so if you’ve already been tagged, sorry about that! I tag:

Ashlee of Her Geekery
Alice of The Geeky Burrow
Meagan of Fiction Incarnate
Desiree of Dezpresso
Danielle of Underland to Wonderland

And my questions for you ladies are:

  1. What would your Patronus take the form of?
  2. How old are you in your youngest memory? (Bonus: Share the memory if you’re comfortable with that!)
  3. Given the chance to be immortal, would you take it?
  4. Do you collect anything?
  5. What is the place where you feel most content?
  6. Do your prefer shoes on or bare feet in warm weather?
  7. Favorite dessert?
  8. Are you superstitious?
  9. Do you have a favorite video game franchise?
  10. What is your least favorite drink?
  11. What was the last thing you laughed about?

And even if I didn’t tag you, feel free to answer the questions in a post. Thanks again to Kayla over at Epicfied for the nomination!

  • Aww thank you so much for the nomination! I don’t even remember if I already did it, but I’ll answer to your questions for sure! Haha 😀

    • Kay

Oh yay! I’m excited to read your answers! 🙂

  • Hey hey, thanks for the nomination!! I’ll definitely participate, I love answering questions like these, haha! I’m definitely with you on movie adaptations of books. They’re always basically the worst and I hate them. Also, yay for childhood piano lessons! I haven’t really played in years either, but I miss the heck out of it<3

    • Kay

Oh my gosh SAME! I loved playing, and so wish I could carve out time for it in my current life. Eventually! So glad I’m not alone on book-to-movie stuff – I feel like so many people love them and usually I’m just like WHYYYYYYYYY.

      • Ugh, I think I’ve only ever liked movie adaptations of books when I haven’t actually read the book they’re based on:P

  • Emma

I love reading these. The facts sections are great because you find out you have even MORE in common with other bloggers, like – I love the smell of coffee too, but I just can’t bring myself to drink it. And I got sorted into Gryffindor first as well, then into Ravenclaw. I feel like a bit of both houses..

    • Kay

Ha no way! I definitely feel like I fit both. And after reading some of the descriptions of Gryffinclaw I found them to be pretty damn accurate about my current life.

  • Kayla Cox

Awwwwww I love art, and never really got into gardening but I love growing my own herbs. I cosplay, but I mainly do it for my cosplay photography business. The amount of work people put into their cosplay is admirable and I wish I had the time to make that amazing of a cosplay. Edgar looks like he isn’t too happy about the picture being taken haha. That’s awesome. Good luck, of course, on the fresh start and I’ll definitely go check out your feminism post! I love both of your favorite colors and they’re easily two of my favorites. I want a piano so badly, then I’d have motivation to finally learn… and something REAL to tune my violin with. I prefer tuning with a piano.
I love all of your facts and yay Griffinclaw! haha.
I love that TWO of my nominations asked about what your patronus would be. I think I chose right. 😉

    • Kay

Ha, I didn’t even know someone else did, oops! 😀 Yay HP love! I’m always curious since there isn’t an ‘official’ way to find out. I figured out mine by just doing a lot of (geeky) research to find what fit. (it’s a Raven, in case you were curious! :D) So awesome that you do ANY kind of cosplay. I so admire people’s skill and talent for it, and also the bravery to physically put yourself out there in it. So great!

      • Kayla Cox

Absolutely not a problem at all. Nothing wrong with that. I did research but also did a few quizzes to get an idea… I have a soft spot for quizzes, but mine would definitely be a big cat like a white tiger or snow leopard. I only have one full cosplay, and it’s my own rendition of Harley Quinn… I was so uncomfortable and nervous the first time but the more I did it, the more I fell in love with it.

  • I’m definitely a night person too! Sometimes I have to force myself to go to sleep because I know I’ll be miserable and groggy in the morning! I could sleep every day until 10:30am!!
    ~Sara
    Sincerely, Sara

    • Kay

I definitely agree on having to force myself to go to bed sometimes. Especially on mornings where I run…going to bed at 1am and getting up at 6am is just not a smart plan!
