Victory dance! My online shop went live last night around midnight, which means I am officially open for business. I’m finding it slightly amusing that it’s opening up on April Fool’s Day, so can we all collectively will the universe to have the first day run nice and smooth? That’d be great.
This is my first venture into having any kind of shop front to sell my arts, so please don’t hesitate to offer feedback about improvements and such.
Currently I’ve got some prints available for sale, as well as two commission slots available. (Check out the fancy new button in my sidebar to take you straight to my shop!)
If you are interested in a custom commissioned piece, please email me! (email@example.com) I’m currently working on one commission, and only have two slots left at the moment. I’m starting by taking on three at a time, and then adding a new slot as I complete each one. So if you’re interested – grab your spot!
And to end this post, I just wanted to chat about art and business for a minute. Firstly, I have zero monetary expectations/goals for this venture. I’m not going to try and earn X amount of money by a certain date. I’m giving this a shot to see if I can end up making it a career vs. a crappy day job that I will find no joy in. But if the whole things flops and I never make one sale? That’s okay. You’d better believe that I will still be making art, still sharing it here, and still having giveaways for it (those aren’t going anywhere!) Making art is a part of who I am. Even if I don’t sell one thing, that won’t change.
In all the research and reading I’ve done about business, making money always seems to be the end goal. I mean, duh, that’s the point of a business. But with art, or really any creative career, I feel like the end goal of money can not be what drives you. You have to love what you do, even if it brings you nothing other than personal joy. That has to be enough. If you can make some money on top of that, then it’s just the icing on the cake. For me, making art is enough. It’s something I will continue to make no matter what ends up happening with this little business venture.
And lastly, I just want to thank all of YOU awesome people for your continued support and kind words. I have found some amazing new friends thanks to the communities I’ve found because of blogging, and I truly appreciate the comments and all around love you guys send my way.
