Mt. Rattlesnake Trail – Summer Hike #2

mt. rattlesnake trail hike

Our second hike of the year was up Mt Rattlesnake trail located in Rumney, NH. This particular Rattlesnake trail (there are a few with that name in the area) is a 3.1 mile loop with some pretty steep sections but so much to enjoy along the way. There’s a babbling stream at the start, beautiful forest scenery the whole way, rocks to climb (and rest) on, and then the payoff at the top. Enjoy a little photo dump!

The views from the summit are gorgeous. It overlooks much of the town of Rumney, along with many other peaks in the distance. It also has a great view of the windmills along one of the ridges which I just adore seeing. (A big fat YES to clean energy please!) We had a picnic lunch at the top where there are plenty of flat areas to sit and take in the view. The trail leads across the top of the peak (which my kiddo adored scrambling around on!) and then loops back down. Definitely one we’ll do more than once!

What a beautiful hike! I really need to get out there and go on a few of my own!

Aw yeah, do it! I love hiking so much, but I totally get that not everyone enjoys slathering bug spray and tromping though the woods uphill haha. XD But I like it because it’s crazy good exercise that to me doesn’t FEEL like specific exercise. Win, win.

  • Oh wow that view, it looks like a beautiful hike xoxo

    • Kay

      Thanks! It definitely is.

  • What a view! *heart eyes emoji* It looks like Middle-earth πŸ™‚

Very much so! I live right at the base of the White Mountains which is a GORGEOUS range…I honestly love living in small town New England. It’s so beautiful!

That is such an amazing view!

Thanks! I’m so happy to live where I do. Though driving to anything major is like an hour+, it’s totally worth it for me haha.

Well I know where I’m going if I ever go to NH.

    • Kay

Yessss. πŸ˜€ I can def recommend some great hikes!

  • I love that you did this hike because Dan was actually just saying this weekend that we should do it sometime! And it does look like a great one, so hopefully we’ll find some time to give it a go before the end of the summer.

Yes!! It’s totally wonderful, highly recommend. Real steep in places, but it’s a pretty short trail so it’s not so bad. Oh, a quick tip – if you do go, at a certain point towards the top, the trail splits – definitely go to the right as you ascend. The view just slaps you in the face that way! πŸ˜€ The trails connect for the loop, but going up the right-turn option makes for a much more in-your-face intro to the view.

  • Wow, that looks beautiful!

    • Kay

Quite so! A definitely advantage to living in small town New England.
