The Merry Fictional Blog Challenge Tag!

In spite of Christmas prep completely taking over my week, I wanted to get this super fun & festive post up! Katy from Oh So Geeky created this fun tag, and I wanted to join in on the holiday fun. Feel free to do The Merry Fictional Blog Challenge yourself, just make sure to link back to Oh So Geeky!

Advent Calendar: Traditions you celebrate during December?

We don’t have any specific traditions. My daughter counts down the days until Christmas using an advent countdown calendar my grandmother made me when I was born. Our family tradition consists of opening presents on Christmas Eve morning because Christmas Day is spent first at my mother’s, and then at my partner’s parent’s house. Trying to cram ours into that is just too much, so we take Christmas Eve as our family day!

Carols: What’s your favorite song(s)?

Pretty much all of the Pentatonix Christmas albums. I have all three, and just toss them on shuffle when I want some festive tunes. Carol of the Bells and Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy are two of my faves.

Fireplace: Favorite Christmas movie that melts your heart?

A Christmas Story. I know it’s love it or hate it, but since I grew up watching it with my dad and brother each Christmas, I love it.

Gingerbread: What’s your favorite holiday snack?

Muddy Buddies! Also known as Puppy Chow to some. My BFF’s mum hosts a Christmas party every year, and it was the first place I tried this particular peanut butter & chocolate confection. SO. GOOD.

Hot Cocoa: What’s your favorite drink?

At that same Christmas party is a special punch made with cranberry-pomegranate juice, seltzer water, and gingerale. It’s such a fantastic little spritzer (and great for people like me who don’t drink alcohol!)

Mistletoe: Character you’d like to meet under the mistletoe?

It’d have to be Locke Lamora. He is so swoon-worthy with his wit, smarts, and charm.

Mittens: A cozy outfit that keeps you warm during winter?

I have a pair of onesie pajamas that are absolutely hideous and unflattering but hot damn are they cozy. I loves them.

Naughty: Three characters who’d make the Naughty list.

Kaz Brekker (from the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo) – I love his character, but he ain’t a nice guy.
Bellamy Blake (from The 100) – we are watching Season 3 on Netflix right now and he is king of bad/jerkish decisions at the moment.
Professor Snape – I KNOW, I KNOW, kill me now internet. I know he was all save the day in the end, but I still loathe his treatment of Harry throughout the books.

Nice: Three characters who’d make the Nice list.

Inej Ghafa (from the Six of Crows duology) – despite doing bad things, she doesn’t compromise her principles.
Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson’s character on Daredevil/Luke Cage) – seriously, always trying to help and do the right thing. Plus, literally saving lives.
Aerith Gainsborough – one of my all time favorite characters, and always super nice.

North Pole: If you could spend Christmas anywhere (even fictional), where would you go?

Not to be a giant cheeseball, but wherever my family is. Christmas to me is about setting aside that time to spend and be together with loved ones. So wherever they are at, that’s where I am. But assuming I could Portkey them all with me, you’d better believe we’d have one epic Christmas at Hogwarts together.

Presents: A book or movie on your wishlist?

Art books were high on my Christmas list this year, particularly The Art of the Deus Ex Universe. As for a ‘regular’ book, Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman was at the top.

Rudolph: What’s your favorite TV holiday special?

I don’t actually have one. We just didn’t watch them growing up. I only saw the classic Rudolph movie last year, and boy is it WEIRD.

Santa: A character you’d love to exchange presents with? What would you get them?

The Weasley twins. I would get them each some sort of classic muggle prank (whoopie cushion, fake poo.)

Snowflake: Something that makes you feel special.

When my kiddo makes presents for people…I love seeing her ideas and thoughts come to life!

Tree: What do you decorate your house with for the season?

We have a Christmas tree with a geek/family theme. We also hang lights all along the beams in our living room, display the Christmas cards we receive, and burn candles all the time.

Yuletide: The top 3 things in your life that make you the most happy?

  1. 1. My partner & daughter
    2. Family & friends
    3. Art

BONUS: Ugly Christmas Sweater: Would you wear a sweater Molly Weasley made you or avoid it like the plague?

I would wear it everywhere with pride!!

Thanks so much Katie!! I hope you had a fantastic Christmas!

  • That card display is so cute!! And yay to Pentatonix, I especially love their Christmas stuff too. I love that you think classic Rudolph is weird! I remember growing up and watching all the claymation Christmas movies thinking “what the hell?!” the whole time. Or whatever the little kid equivalent to that was, haha.

    • Kay

SERIOUSLY. Those movies are so freaking strange! I hope you had an awesome Christmas Ashlee!

  • Gingi Edmonds Freeman

A Christmas Story is pretty much an amazing family tradition for every family, everywhere, ever. haha! I am not wild about the movie, but it isnt Christmas with a couple of binge re-watchings of it throughout the month. 😉 Merry Christmas!! –

    • Kay

Exactly! It’s most definitely a holiday classic.

  • Thank you so much for joining my challenge! Sorry this response was a little late – your post has been added to my master list of participants too. I love your gifts for the Weasley brothers, that’s so inventive! A Christmas Story is a major tradition in my family, or at least for me and my family puts up with it. I love it when TBS does their whole day marathon. Hope you had a great holiday and a happy new year!
