March Wrap-Up + Favorites

What a month March was. I feel like this month had such a huge build-up for me, mentally, as it was the last month I had before I am officially open for business with my art. Let’s kick off the March wrap-up with goals!

This month, I posted my goals and literally never looked at the post again. Oh dear. As I’m writing this, I haven’t looked at it yet and have no actual idea WHAT my goals were, other than water drinking. So let’s see how I did!

#1. Start running again. Success! I have about 3 miles left to log of the 22.1 mile Sherlock race. I really enjoy running again. I’m not really on a regular schedule with it yet, but I’m happy with just going again period.

#2. Order business cards. Success! And I love them. In fact, I’ve got a whole post about them for next week. Stay tuned!

#3. Drink. More. Water. SO. CLOSE. In February, I only averaged 10 ounces of water a day, and I wanted to kick that up to 16 ounces, minimum, for March. This month, I averaged 15.65 ounces a day. Improvement, and so close to my (already low) goal! I need to work on consistency; I have days where I’ll drink 24 ounces or more in a day, and then go a few days only drinking 8 or 10. I need a balance!

#4. Complete 4 finalized pieces of art. Not quite. I completed 3 full pieces, stuck with Sketch Portraits, and have a lot of concept drawings started. Still productive, but not quite at the one a week I want to get to.

#5. Make a budget. Sort of completed? I have a post coming up about budgeting in April, but for now I’ll say that yes, I did sit down and write a budget for the month of March. But we didn’t exactly stick to it. More details in the upcoming post.

Overall, 2 of 5 goals fully completed. Now to start mulling over ideas for April’s goals (and hopefully not forget them entirely this time!)

Moving on to monthly favorites! Here’s what I was loving in March:

  • These art Instagram accounts:
  • Being inspired to start new projects outside of my comfort zone.

    march wrap-up + favorites: firewatch

  • Playing Firewatch for Indie Game Gang. I was shit about being active in the forums, but I loved this game.
  • Celebrating my brother’s birthday.
  • Setting aside free time to spend with my hubs instead of constantly working on projects.
  • These YouTubers:
    Kiera Rose
    Monster Paws

march wrap-up + favorites: felicity smoak

  • Felicity Smoak. We’ve been catching up on Arrow, and while I may not ship Ollie + Felicity, I love her so, so much as a character. Plus, serious wardrobe goals.
  • Splurging on two cute new dresses to wear as soon as the weather warms up.

March felt like it flew by, and I think it’s because I had so much to prepare for my art shop opening up. I can’t believe it opens TOMORROW! I’m so happy it’s finally ready, and also filled with anxiety though I have no idea why. It’s not like I have a problem sharing my work; I do it all the time here! In fact, you guys have already seen the things I’m offering prints of! I think the fact that it’s the first time I’ve really put myself out there and made a go of my art just causes me some anxiety about it. But there’s a whole bunch of excitement to go with it! Stay tuned tomorrow for an announcement post on the shop!

What did March bring to the table for you?

  • It’s so important to schedule time with your SO<3 Andrew and I have been working on so much lately and we really need a date day sometime soon! And I'm also not an Ollicity shipper! I wish she could be with Barry (except I sort of ship almost everyone with Barry… myself included!)

    • Kay

It really is important to make time. Chris & I see each other a lot, but it’s usually with our kiddo, or just both doing separate things in the same room. Being together without being together, if that makes sense! It’s nice to make time for just us! And I would definitely be happy to see Felicity with Barry!!

  • Emma

Ollie and Felicity are THE WORST! I’m a Ray-licity fan, they are the cutest, most awkward mess of a couple. Congrats on the store opening – so excited for you!

    • Kay

Yes, I ship them too! They were so perfect! And thank you!

  • I do like Arrow, but I hate Felicity’s current storyline! Also Green Arrow should be with Black Canary!

    • Kay

I haven’t seen season 4, but given how Season 3 ended I think I’ll be pretty annoyed as well!

  • christine

SO excited for your shop to open up!! Sounds like you did great on your goals, even if they weren’t fully completed – you still made a ton of progress. I’ve loved seeing the Sketch Portraits!

    • Kay

Thanks! Hopefully it’ll all run smoothly haha. And I’m glad you’re enjoying the Sketch Portraits! It’s been such a fun exercise in drawing loosely.

  • I’m super excited for your art shop!!! Wish you all the best with it 🙂 <3

    • Kay

Thanks so much Alice! Here’s hoping it all runs smoothly tomorrow! 🙂

  • Wow, I can’t believe your shop is opening tomorrow!! I’m so excited for you and I can’t wait to check it out. Also Firewatch looks gorgeous, I’ll have to look into it!

  • Yay Firewatch!! Wasn’t it fun? Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it.

    • Kay

It’s so great! I really need to get my butt over to the forums but I keep forgetting! XD

  • Danielle Knapp

That’s awesome you’ve only got 3 miles left on the Sherlock run…I really need to get back to running :p

    • Kay

It was hard to start again but it feels so good now haha. I find there are as many mental benefits to exercise as there are physical. You can log miles for Baker Street Bound by walking too which is nice! My daughter and I do ~2 mile walks a couple times a week, so those have helped tick up my mileage.

  • Yay for running! It’s such a great outlet at the end of the day. I must admit, I stopped running during the winter and I still haven’t got back into it, but now that the evenings are a lot lighter, I might have to get my butt back into gear.

It took me ages to get into a good water drinking habit, for me, it was easy if I always had water with me. I bought myself two bottles that I could carry the water around with me, whether that was out of the house or around the house. Having it in front of me, meant I would drink it more often. I can’t seem to remember to fill a glass up haha!

    • Kay

I had stopped running over winter too! Those first couple runs…so brutal haha! But it does feel great to start again. Best of luck if you get back into it!

  • gamerwife

No worries about participating in the forums for IGG. I’m also shit and it’s my damn gang! lol

    • Kay

I just kept forgetting! Next month I’ll work on remembering better.

  • March has honestly been a very tough month. Been sick twice which means I’ve been sick the whole month. Then my late mother’s birthday came around…so I’m just happy to get the month of March done and I’m very eager for april to fly by as well….

    • Kay

I hope April is better for you! Being sick is just the worst…it always throws everything off.
