January Kiwi Crate: Shadow & Light

I was as equally impressed by our second round of Kiwi Crate as I was by the first! January Kiwi Crate’s theme was Shadow & Light, and we had some serious fun with it!

As usual, it came with the monthly magazine, filled with activities and information.

And, just like last month, I was thoroughly impressed by all the box came with!

January’s box included a flashlight + batteries, dry erase markers + eraser, the makings for a flashlight projector, rainbow popsicle sticks (for shadow puppets), the ‘Shadow Puppets’ folder (at the top left there) filled with, duh, shadow puppets and the ‘Shadow & Light’ folder filled with slides for the projector you build. LOVE IT.

She started right away with building the projector for the flashlight (you can spot some of the excellent visual directions there.)

And finished! Now, unfortunately, I didn’t snag any pics of the projector slides, or it in action. She tolerates me snapping photos all the time quite well, but sometimes you’ve just got to enjoy doing the thing instead of documenting. The projector is actually very cool – it comes with slides that project fun shapes on the wall (my little’s fave was the octopus!) along with clear and translucent plastic sheets to draw on with the dry erase markers to make your own projections!

Then it was on to assembling the shadow puppets. These required a bit of adult help; sometimes the miss had trouble holding everything together AND sliding in the brads, so we worked as a team. And in the end….

….a happy girl with tons of shadow puppets!! They had really cool ones – that cloud in front rotates through different weathers, and there’s a boat that rocks. My little loved the shark whose mouth open and closed! She had a blast putting on a puppet show for me, which I had a heck of a time trying to snap pics of! But I got a few to share.

Overall, we are definitely still satisfied customers. For those looking for some learning fun I can’t recommend Kiwi Crate enough, whether you home school or not. Keep in mind they have boxes for all ages! February’s crate should be coming in soon and we’re both excited to see what the theme will be!

While I am an affilite of Kiwi Crate, this box was purchased with my own money, and the review is my own honest opinion. As an affiliate, the links in this post are affiliate links. All income from affiliate links covers costs here on the blog!

This box is such a brilliant idea. Looks like you both had a lot of fun with it. Is it a surprise every month or do you get to know the theme in advance?

I believe you can check the website once you get the shipping notification and it will say the theme of the box under your order history, but I like to be surprised so we’ve never checked in advance. 😀

I can’t believe it came with a flashlight! You really do seem to get your money’s worth with these boxes.

I think I was more impressed by the inclusion of the batteries for the flashlight – that never happens. It really is worth the money; I’m quite glad I decided to sign up!

  • These boxes are really awesome! Looks like your little had a lot of fun with it!

      She most certainly did!

  • Shadow puppets?! This is too cute!!
