Inktober 2017 Wrap Up

Inktober 2017 is over and I could not have had more fun with the project this year! I loved sketching out tattooed people each day. Using just a ballpoint pen was incredibly rewarding. It was great to go back to something so simple that can have such range. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Copic markers, but it’s always nice to have a reminder that you can create without breaking the bank. I’ll definitely be making more pen drawings even with Inktober being over!

Inktober 2017 Days 1-8

I learned quite a bit from Inktober 2017 as well! One of the most surprising things I learned is just how much I love drawing hair. I used to be so intimidated by drawing hair, but in this challenge I chose certain references based on just the complexity of the hair! Drawing it with the ballpoint was an absolute joy. I found I was able to get such great contrast and strokes, and will definitely be doing more pen hair studies in the future.

Inktober 2017 Days 9-16

Currently, I’m looking into ideas about putting together a soft cover book or zine for sale. This project was so much fun, and I’m really proud to have completed the whole thing!  I know absolutely nothing about printing up a zine, both in terms of printing options or cost. If you have any info on that, I would greatly appreciate it!

Inktober 2017 Days 17-24

Did you all enjoy Inktober 2017? I think I enjoy it as much as a spectator as I do a participant. It’s such a lovely thing to see my Instagram and YouTube channels I follow filled to the brim with gorgeous art! Maybe one of these years I’ll actually follow the official Inktober prompt list. I think it could be such fun to have an overall theme and then make the prompt list work around the theme!

  • You are amazing at hair, it’s hard to believe you ever had an issue with it!
My husband did a book once through a self-publishing sure, he used lulu.com. it was fairly economical, and there was a lot of flexibility in batch size and style/materials for the book. Books were really nice quality. Might be something to look at, his wasn’t fully illustrated but I think they had options that can accommodate that.

Thanks so much! I will definitely look into that, much appreciated!
