It’s time for the latest installment of Child Style, where I share illustrations of OOTDs my daughter picks out and wears. I absolutely love illustrating this series, both as great sketching practice and also for memory preserving! I know I’ll look back in a few years and treasure these. Keep reading to see the September looks, and get the latest in five year old style.
Shirt: Children’s Place | Skirt: Kohls | Sneakers: Kohls | Backpack + Lunchbox: Amazon
The First (Ever) Day of School
Talk about a big day! My daughter played it surprisingly tame in all pink. She picked long sleeves despite it being in the mid-eighties still. “Mom, it’s school time. That means it’s fall!” Right, how could I be so silly. She also had to show her cat lady pride by accessorizing with a kitty backpack and lunchbox.
Headband: Kohls | Dress: Kohls | Leggings: Peebles | Shoes: Thrifted
Catching bugs is a favorite past time for my five year old. Sometimes, she dresses to match the activity.
Cape: Thrifted | Shirt: Old Navy | Skirt: Kohls | Shoes: Gift
Capes Are Cool
Yes, yes they are kiddo, but not for school. Capes are great after school attire, perfect for an afternoon snack and an episode of Pokemon.
Mask: Dollar General | Boa: From Mum | Cape: Thrifted | Shorts: WalMart
Is there a better way to spend a Saturday than shirtless with shorts, a cape, masquerade mask, and feather boa? I think not.
I shared this story on my art Instagram, but I figured I’ll share it here as well. My daughter saw my sketchbook open on my desk and saw the illustrations as I was working on them. She asked, “Mom, why are you drawing me?!”. I said, “Because you’re outfits are so awesome!” to which she replied, “Well, that’s true.” and then sauntered off like a total five year old BAMF. I hope she keeps that confidence forever and ever.
