Valentine’s Day Commission Special!

Today’s the day – commissions are officially open again! I just wanted to pop in and officially announce it on the blog, as well as share a little info about my Valentine’s Day Commission Special! With Valentine’s Day coming right up, I wanted to offer up some stylized couples portraits at a special price of $25! That $25 gets you a one-of-a-kind portrait drawn up for you and your snookums (oh yeah, full on cheese-ball nicknames are a necessity here) and emailed right to you. You can print it on a card, as a framed print – anything you like! Slots for this Valentine’s Day commission special are quite limited,...

Botanical Drawing Challenge!

This year one of my big art goals is to continue trying things out of my comfort zone, both in subject and medium. To kick that off with a bang, I created a botanical drawing challenge! As I’m sure most of you readers know, my particular niche in art is portraiture. I’m pretty comfortable with drawing human faces and I love capturing expression. But I do want to broaden my subjects and get comfortable with more. Nature is a passion of mine. I love gardening, hiking, being outside, and growing plants. Therefore it only made sense to create a botanical drawing challenge as my first 30 day drawing challenge! To...

October Favorites

1. Costume making. I’ve had so much fun putting together our family Pokemon costumes for Halloween! It ended up turning into way more work than expected (more about it in the costume reveal post) but it’s been such a fun process! 2. Inktober. Not only have I enjoyed making an ink drawing each day, I absolutely love scrolling through Instagram and watching all the Inktober Youtube vids. SO much gorgeous art everywhere! 3. Going vegetarian. We finally did it! This is the first month where my family has been 95% vegetarian. I say 95% because my partner still buys lunch meat for sandwiches at work, but what can you do....

Zodiac Portraits + Learning Creative Confidence

Today I want to talk about creative confidence, a subject which happens to be tied directly to a new portrait series I’m working on. Truth be told, I lack creative confidence in so many ways. The biggest area I’m lacking in is drawing without using a direct reference. That is something I truly struggle with. For over a year, I have had the idea to create a portrait series based on the Zodiac signs rolling around in my head. But a lack of creative confidence always held me back. Every time I went to start this project that little voice in my head suddenly became deafening, telling me I couldn’t...

Inktober 2016

Unless you’ve been living under an internet rock or have absolutely ZERO exposure to artists online, you’ve probably heard of Inktober. Created by Jake Parker back in 2009, Inktober challenges artists of any skill set or level to make one ink drawing every day for the month of October. I discovered the wonder of Inktober two years ago, but was lacking confidence and decided not to join. Last year, I hopped in and completed 22 of of the 31 days which wasn’t too shabby for my first attempt! Here’s are some samplings from Inktober 2015. This year, I will do my best to complete the full 31 days of Inktober....

September Favorites

1. Buffer. Trying out a social media scheduler was on my list of priorities for the month. After hearing some great endorsements from the lovely people in the Fake Goth Girls Slack channel I decided to give Buffer a go. And it is great. I still haven’t worked out a perfect system for when I schedule things, but I am loving this method already. 2. My new art space. I am absolutely loving the little nook that I set up for my myself. I am totally comfortable working there all day. Added bonus? It’s right in front of the heater so I’ll stay nice and toasty through the winter. Read...
