My Happy Mail Project

Is there anyone who doesn’t enjoy receiving snail mail? Be it a package from Amazon, your favorite subscription box, or an Etsy order, getting mail is fun. Period. So I wanted to start a project, which is simply titled Happy Mail.

What is it? Quite simple. At least once a month, I will randomly send out art to someone in my address book. It could be fanart, a portrait, or just something I think you’ll like. Sound cool? Then add your name + mailing address to my Postable address book and one day, you may just have a surprise from me in your mailbox! International addresses are fully welcome to join in as well!

I was (and kind of still am as I write this) really nervous about sharing this post and this project. It’s an idea I’ve had for more than a year now. But I was always afraid to publicly put out a call for mailing addresses. It’s personal information, and I didn’t want people to see me as the weirdo asking for personal information. (Which is extra stupid, as I do the same thing for my annual holiday card exchange. But this is different! Yeah, thanks brain.)  BUT, as I mentioned in this post, I’m embracing YOU DO YOU, and this is something I’ve wanted to do for awhile.

I don’t care if it sounds cheesy as fuck, I LIKE making people happy with my art. I like making people happy with mail. So, I’m going to try to do so! And if people are uncomfortable with giving out their info, well, then they won’t sign up. DUH. When you write it out, it does tend to make my fears about this project seem a little silly.

So, if you like the idea of getting a surprise one month, go ahead and join in my Happy Mail project by adding in your mailing address here. I’m already working on my first surprise to send out for someone, and I’ll be sharing about it after they receive it!

Fun fact: Apparently A Beautiful Mess has a project called Happy Mail as well. I didn’t know that at the time I decided to call my project that; I’ve just always referred to receiving a fun thing in the mail as ‘Happy Mail’. My project isn’t affiliated with theirs in any way…I JUST WANT TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY WITH MAIL + ART DAMMIT.

  • This is an adorable and generous idea, and as an artist I think it’s a great way to help grow your art. Will you keep track of what you do and send out in your blog or are you going to keep it personal?

  • This is such a cute idea! You’re going to give so much joy to so many people. I’d love to take part in this but I’m moving soon. I’d hate for your artwork to end up somewhere else. 😛

    • Kay

Thanks Katy! And the link will always be open, so be sure you add your address once you move if you like! 🙂

  • This is a good idea,I don’t think people will think you’re a weirdo for doing it. In fact, it will no doubt cheer people up! And considering you’re sending beautiful art and not creepy ransom notes, it will be welcome and appreciated. I should try to do something similar to try get more followers/views/compliments, but I’ll figure that out later.

    • Kay

Thank you! It’s nice only doing one a month since then it’s not a drain on time or money (at least not much). Let me know if you start up a project, I’d love to check it out!
